Evacuation diagrams and block plans

Clear evacuation diagrams for every evacuation route, and durable block plans for your fire alarm, sprinkler and hydrant systems, drawn from a site visit and updated whenever your building changes.

Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (Qld)

Services we provide

  • Site visit to confirm exits, routes and equipment
  • Evacuation diagrams for each evacuation route, correctly oriented
  • Exits, alarms, firefighting equipment and assembly areas marked
  • Fire alarm, sprinkler and hydrant block plans
  • Block plans made for outdoor use, A3 or larger
  • Updates after fit-outs and layout changes

Why it matters

In Queensland, evacuation signs and diagrams must be displayed on each evacuation route of most commercial buildings. A diagram that no longer matches the building, after a fit-out or a moved wall, can send people the wrong way in an emergency.

Block plans show attending firefighters the alarm zones, valves and boosters before they go inside. Because we service those systems, our plans match what's actually installed.

FAQ

Evacuation Diagrams & Block Plans: common questions

Can't see your question? Call 07 3916 4344 and talk to the team.

Does my building need evacuation diagrams?

In Queensland, the occupier must display evacuation signs and diagrams on each evacuation route, unless the building's total floor area is under 300 m² (Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008, section 30). We'll confirm what your building needs at the free site visit.

What must an evacuation diagram show?

Where the diagram is displayed, the route to the nearest exit, every exit, intercom devices in common areas, manual fire alarms, firefighting equipment, the assembly area and the route to it. It must be easy to understand in an emergency, with a legend and a reasonable scale.

How often do evacuation diagrams need updating?

Your fire and evacuation plan, which includes the diagrams, must be reviewed at least once a year and updated within a month of a change such as a refurbishment or a change of use.

What is a block plan?

A durable plan mounted at the fire panel, sprinkler valves or hydrant booster, showing the building layout, alarm zones and key equipment so firefighters can find their way. The Queensland Fire Department asks for them to be at least A3, correctly oriented to the site and made for outdoor use. Paper in a plastic sleeve isn't accepted.
